Serpents Slay And Scorpions Sting

n our ongoing study of the Spiritual identities found in prophetic metaphor, one of the more striking facts is found in the attributes of the two factions described throughout the Scriptures. These characteristics have to do with the twin towers of evil, imaged as the two beasts of Revelation, which are revealed to be Serpents and Scorpions.

Since most "believers" reject the mystical truth found in the supernaturally engineered language of the LORD, discarding the same in favor of Rapture Cult inspired comic book pulp fiction, they are in no position to understand the truth which God has revealed. However, the Word of God never returns to Him void, so we remain faithful to articulate that which He has blessed us to "know therefore, and understand" (Daniel 9:25).

There are two hemispheres of evil, projected by the mind of the dragon, and imaged as twin beasts. These two amalgamated beasts are clearly non-literal, and they provide texture and substance to the two devilish factions which represent the Double Minded Devil (who is, of course, unstable in all his ways).

The two beasts of Revelation are each empowered by the two evil Spiritual entities said to ride upon thePale Horse – i.e. Death and Hell. We note how "Death," as well as "Hell" are capitalized as proper names, denoting their segregated nature. It may be said the Antichrist beast of Revelation 13 is inhabited by "Death," and the False Prophet beast, ever the religious sort, is animated by "Hell."

We also note that at the very end of Revelation's awesome prophetic panorama, that these same two –Death and Hell – are cast into the Lake of Fire:

"And death and hell were cast into the Lake of Fire" (Revelation 20:14).

However, these deceiving Spirits have other terms to describe them, and Serpents and Scorpions are among the foremost. For instance, deep into the vivid word pictures referenced as the trumpet judgments, we find the first faction's ability to cause harm is connected to the power of a serpent:

"By these three was the third part of menkilled…For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt" (Revelation 9:18,19).

Note how the "serpents" actually kill – which is quite consistent with the power of "Death" previously described.

However, the 2nd faction in Revelation's trumpet judgments is specifically imaged as not inflicting death, instead causing the anguish associated with that of a scorpion sting:

"And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was givenpower, as the scorpions of the earth have power. And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man" (Revelation 9:5).

Pain and torment are classic images associated with the very concept of "Hell" (as opposed to Death), so the Spiritual attributes of these two identities continues to be consistent – i.e. "Death" kills, while "Hell" torments. This is precisely the mystical description projected as Serpents and Scorpions.

Unfortunately, vast numbers of believers cannot discern such things because, as the Word of God tells us,

"The natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned" (I Corinthians 2:14).

This is not to say there is no sequential or figurative fulfillment before us, as the prophecies given by God also have literal paths of fulfillment. However, the primary purpose of prophetic metaphor is to provide the light of the LORD to the Seed of God, so that he or she will know the truth concerning the identities involved, as well as recognizing their own position within God's grand plan.

Like the Jews of yesteryear who could not cope with the idea of an itinerant Galilean as their promised Saviour, most "believers" today do not have the Gospel, although virtually all who claim to know Jesus believe they are on the right road.

This is not only precisely what was prophesied to occur during the great apostasia (the much vaunted "falling away"), but it is evidenced by the fact the vast majority of "Christians" look like lambs, but speak as a dragon – inadvertently betraying their lack of understanding of the truth:

"And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon" (Revelation 13:11).

This is, of course, the "False Prophet," who is seen as a collective form of the 2nd Spiritual construct, therein described as inhabited by "Hell." We note that Hell is not Death, and it is certainly not Life – as seen in Christ, so it is self evident it is somewhere in between:

"…the rich man also died, and was buried; and in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments…" (Luke 16:22, 23).

Notice the connection between the torment inflicted by the Scorpion Spirit, and the "Hell" which it exemplifies. These twin Spiritual entities, theSerpents and the Scorpions, are opposed by the Seed of God – who is clearly the LORD Jesus Christ:

"He saith not, and to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ" (Galatians 3:16).

Thus, the triune alignment of all things consists of the Seed of God, which is Christ, and the two sided projection of evil, as manifested in the Serpents and the Scorpions.

Just as the dragon gives power to his serpent and his scorpion spirit, seen as the two beasts of Revelation, JESUS CHRIST, who is the Seed of God, gives power to His true disciples:

"Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions…." (Luke 10:19).
