Stamping On The Stars: The Little Horn Part VI

he present look at the Little Horn has established two separate manifestations of the Spiritually empowered entity, with one in the Old Testament timeline, and the final appearance in the last generation – at the end of the New Testament timeline. The Little Horn serves as the vessel of dishonour which hosts the Spirit of Antichrist, and it is the agent of the dragon at the end of the Old Testament age, as well as our time.

Under the economy of the Old Testament, the Antiochian dynasty of the Gentile Seleucids functioned as the Little Horn, and that power arrived in world history -- precisely where Daniel 8 predicted it would – in the latter time of the “four notable ones” which divided the kingdom of Alexander the Great at his death:

“And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great…and it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them” (Daniel 8: 8, 9).

The eighth and last despot in the line which began with Seleucus, Antiochus IV, also known asAntiochus Epiphanes (meaning “manifest god”), was a devotee of the Greek religion associated with Zeus, the Titans, and the Daemons. As the power of Rome was reaching critical mass in his time (about 167 BC), the Latin version of Zeus, known as Jupiter Olympus derived from Zeus-Pater, with the latter term the root for our word paternity), became prevalent in this period.

The Greeks believed the Daemons were good and evil, with one portion of the Daemons directly created by God as eternal beings, but the other consisting of men who became glorified as Daemons when they passed on. Great achievement in this life was required to become a “Daemon” – and the people seeking to ascend to the ranks of the Daemons were known as heroes.

Many know that Antiochus Epiphanes was the maniac who slaughtered a pig on the Jerusalem altar, but few understand this was not simply a statement of his contempt for the Old Testament temple system. Antiochus had already erected a statue of Jupiter in the temple, but few realize the sacrifice of a pig was a key component of an ancient Egyptian religious ritual known as “the opening of the mouth” – and it was associated with an occult incantation, designed to supernaturally bring a statue to life.

The fact is, with this ritual, Antiochus was attempting to show the presumed superiority of the Daemon religion to the Hebrew covenant associated with the Jews. Although he was certainly unaware of it, this act prefigured the creation of the Image of the Beast, as described in Revelation.

Antiochus I and his heirs had largely succeeded in converting a significant portion of the Judaeans to the heathen religion followed by the Gentile world. As covered in a previous installment of the present work, although most commentators focus on howAntiochus IV punished the Jewish zealots who opposed him, the Seleucid’s efforts to convert the Jews to the worship of the Daemonic religion was a great success:

“[Many] of the Israelites consented to his religion, and sacrificed unto idols, and profaned the Sabbath” (I Maccabees 1:43, the Apocrypha).

As circumcision was the central mark of the Jewish people, externally identifying them with the worship of YHWH via adherence to the laws of Moses, Antiochus exhibited a particular hostility towards the ritual – and he banned it, under penalty of torture and death. Over a period of time, with some notable exceptions, the Jews acquiesced to his idolatry, and converted to the worship of the sun, moon, and stars – a central part of the Greek pantheon:

“….the altar was filled with profane things…[and] the temple was filled with riot and reveling by the Gentiles, who dallied with harlots, and had to do with women within…the holy places” (II Maccabees 6:5, 4).

As the people of Israel were chosen by God to be his sons and daughters in the heavenlies, their renunciation of the covenant via the lure of assimilation into the worldly religion of the Gentiles, constituted a horrendous fall from their position in the Spiritual court of the LORD. As the personification of the Graeco-Syrian kingdom of the Seleucids, Antiochus’ magnification of himself, and his religious system, was the instrument of the Jewish version of the falling away:

“[the Little Horn] waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and it cast down some of the host and of the stars to the ground, and stamped upon them. Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down” (Daniel 8:10, 11).

Antiochus inevitably came to a horrifying end, and the Kingdom of God in Jesus Christ arrived concurrent with the Roman Empire, along with the LORD’s final effort to redeem the lost sheep of the house of Israel:

“I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matthew 15:24).

For the last 2,000 years, the Christians, largely comprised of Gentiles as well as Jews, have been born again as the sons and daughters of God. Just as the ancient Jews were chosen to be the vessels of God under the Old Covenant, but forfeited their standing as described herein, we are now the host of heaven, seated in the Kingdom of God, in Christ:

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ….And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Ephesians 1:3, 2:6).

Now, at the end of the age, in precisely the sequential time period predicted in Daniel 7, the Spirit of Antichristhas been regathered into the New Testament era manifestation of the Little Horn, and this time it occupies the modern Jewish nation, as that wicked power seeks to repeat its infernal work of casting the host of heaven to the ground:

“When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man [or a people], he walketh through dry places, seeking rest; and finding none, he saith, I will return unto my house whence I came out. And when he cometh, he findeth it swept and garnished. Then goeth he, and taketh to him seven other spirits more wicked than himself; and they enter in, and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first” (Luke 11:24, 25).

This “unclean spirit” is the entity which indwells theLittle Horn, and with seven other spirits more wicked than himself, he is mystically imaged as the eighth – identifying it with the Spirit of Antichrist:

“And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition” (Revelation 17:11).

Bible Prophecy has always stated there would be a massive departure from the truth towards the end of the age, but few recognize this process was foreshadowed in the Old Testament era (I Corinthians 10:11), shortly before the arrival of the New Covenant. The countdown of the prophesied kingdoms in the Christian era points to the re-emergence of the Spirit within the Little Horn – but this time, it is the Spiritual Gentiles (Revelation 3:9) which seek to seduce (read “cast down”) the Spiritual Jews (Romans 2:29) from their place as the host of heaven.
